VOLUNTEER GRANT WRITERS
As a volunteer grant writer, you will be responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to funding organizations and persuasively communicating CORE Africa’s mission and programmes to them.
This position requires someone who
- Has previous experience of searching and applying for research grants. Previous fundraising experience will be a bonus
- Has excellent writing and communication skills
- Is self-motivated and reliable
- Has a keen eye for detail
- Is organised and able to meet deadlines
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working with our team to develop grant proposals
- Preparing and submitting grant applications
- Establishing and maintaining contact with grant-making organizations
- Maintaining a calendar of submissions and important deadlines
- Reporting progress in grant researching, grant submissions and outcomes to the team
The minimum commitment for this role is an average of 5 hours per week and bi-weekly meetings with programme leads. Free training on this role will be provided for the right candidates.

VOLUNTEER PROJECT ASSISTANTS
As a project assistant, you will be called upon from time to time to assist in performing various tasks for our projects. These may include
- Transcribing audio recordings
- Creating graphs
- Drafting reports
- Searching for information on the internet
- Writing short articles
- Creating/editing powerpoint slides
- Liaising with key contacts to get information
- Facilitating our programmes e.g. webinars and workshops
You decide what, when and how much you can do!
Please, note that these positions come up on an as-and-when-needed basis. Available tasks will be shared by email, from where you will be able to indicate your availability
VOLUNTEER MEDIA ASSISTANTS
As a media assistant, you can contribute in:
- Updating our social media pages
- Editing videos
- Taking photographs and videos
CORE AFRICA AMBASSADORS
OUTREACH AMBASSADORS
As a CORE Africa ambassador, your role will be to organise outreach events to talk to students about any of the following:
- The importance of research to society
- How research can impact their academic & professional development
- Good & bad research practices & the importance of conducting quality research
- The importance of disseminating research findings
- CORE Africa’s work & research support services
For this role, you would be required to
- Communicate fluently in English language
- Organize an outreach event at least once a year
- Discuss your outreach aim(s) with us and attend a preparatory meeting
- Provide a brief report summarizing how the event went
CAREC AMBASSADORS
If you are interested in our research club, we would be happy to work with you to lead our research club activities in your country
For this role, you would be required to
- Be a university student or an A/L graduate
- Communicate fluently in English language
- Mobilize a team of facilitators (at least 3) to assist in organizing and delivering the programme
- Attend a preparatory meeting alongside your team of facilitators
- Organise a CAREC event and invite pre-university students and students in their early years of university studies to attend
- Provide feedback forms from the event
MENTORS & FACILITATORS
RESEARCH MENTORS
Join our team of amazing research mentors in guiding younger and less experienced researchers through their research journey.
Minimum requirements for this role include:
- At least 3 years of demonstrable research experience
- Ability to communicate fluently in English
For this role, you can participate in
- Providing 1:1 mentoring
- Preparing content for and/or delivering sessions at our research webinars
- Giving tailored advice on various research-related topics through drop-in sessions
ACADEMIC RESEARCH FACILITATORS
If you are a research course instructor, lecturer or head of research department at your institution, we would like to work with you to:
- Identify challenges with academic research & potential solutions
- Discuss students’ research needs & identify ways to supplement their learning and skill development
PARTNERS & COLLABORATORS
If you are a research organization an academic institution, or have any ideas that align with our mission, we would like to work with you in identifying research challenges in Africa and developing practical solutions to these problems

Your contributions can make a difference to research in Africa by enabling students and young researchers to access our services, enabling our mentors and researchers to provide the services required and supporting the preparation and purchase of material for our events.

Our mentors and mentees rely on internet connection to stay in touch with each other, especially as most of them live in different countries. With as little as £0.50, a mentee will be able to have an hour long session with their mentor to help develop their research skills
Students also rely on internet connection to access our research webinars.

Our research club includes several fun activities which students can participate in offline, and learn about research. A shared tablet will enable our club members to experience the fun in learning about research through these offline activities
A shared laptop can also enhance the learning experience of our research interns and workshop attendants

Event costs include writing material for our group activities (e.g. cardboard sheets, pens, markers, etc), printing costs (including files, t-shirts, badges and lanyards) and projectors.
